Saawariya, the film that marked the debut of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, suffered at the box-office, but managed to find a place in our playlist with songs like ‘Saawariya’, ‘Jab Se Tere Naina’ and ‘Masha-Allah’.There have been innumerous Bollywood singers who have made the audience smile and cry at the same time. You may or may not like Sanjay Leela Bhansali movies, but you can’t really diss the music of his films. The only takeaway from the film was its music and people fell in love with songs like ‘Gerua’ and ‘Janam Janam’. This SRK-Kajol comeback film turned out to be a huge disappointment for their fans. But the makers made sure they back it up with a superhit playlist with songs like, ‘Sooraj Dooba Hain’, ‘Tu Hai Ki Nahi’, and of course ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’, the bridal song of the decade. It’s hard to accept that a film starring talented actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal will bomb at the box-office. However, songs like ‘Gulabo’ and ‘Shaam Shaandaar’ topped the charts for a really long time and made it to every Indian shaadi and sangeet. This Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor film was not shaandaar at all. The story however managed to put the viewers to sleep. Fitoor was all about good looks, great cinematography, good soothing music, and fine lyrics.

Had it not been songs like ‘Kala Chashma’, and romantic numbers like ‘Sau Aasman’ and ‘Dariya’, it would be an absolute blink-and-miss despite having a stellar star cast.Īnother Katrina Kaif movie that didn’t sit well with the audience. It’s no secret that the film’s playlist was its saving grace.
Released in 1999, Dahek got noticed only for its romantic track, ‘Sawan Barse Tarse Dil’ sung by Sadhana Sargam and Hariharan. The film featuring Akshaye Khanna and Sonali Bendre as the lead was based on the trials and tribulations of a Hindu-Muslim love story.
A song we don’t mind listening to time and again, unlike the film. ‘Yeh Yaadein Kisi Dil-O-Jaanam Ke Chale Jaane Ke Baad Aati Hain’ sung by none other than Hariharan got us teary-eyed every time. You can always count on Subhash Ghai films’ songs, if not the film. The film tanked at the box-office and failed to leave an impression on the audience. The film starred Manisha Koirala’s brother Siddharth Koirala who got critically acclaimed and that was it. ‘Tose Naina Lage’ and ‘Maula Mere Maula’ is still one of our favourite romantic songs ever.
And of course, ‘Bol Na Halke Halke’, the song that defined romance and topped the charts for a long time. If there’s anything we can remotely recall about this film is the song, ‘Jhoom Barabar’ that had become the party anthem back in the 2000s. From its title track to the melodious ‘Tu Aashiqui Hai’ and ‘Suno Na’, the playlist still has a special place in our hearts. The multi-starrer film might have failed to impress the audience and critics, but the songs did not. The only reason we remember this movie is for its songs like ‘Chura Lo Na Dil Mera’ and ‘Chori Chori Jab Nazrein Mili’ that made us fall in love.

The tried and tested formula of selling a film with a wafer-thin plot by packaging it with good music seems to have worked well for Bollywood in the past few years.
